Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Lean Manufacturing principles represents a significant advancement in modern industrial operations. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for combining AI capabilities with traditional Lean methodologies to achieve enhanced operational excellence. Through examination of real-world implementations and current research, we explore how AI augments key Lean principles such as waste reduction, continuous flow, and value stream optimization. The study demonstrates how predictive maintenance, computer vision-based quality control, and AIdriven supply chain optimization complement Lean practices like Just-in-Time production, Kaizen and Visual Management systems. While highlighting successful integration cases from companies like Toyota, Bosch, and Siemens, we also address critical challenges including cultural resistance, technical infrastructure requirements, and workforce adaptation needs. This integration, termed "Lean 4.0," represents a significant evolution in manufacturing operations, combining the systematic waste reduction focus of Lean with AI's advanced analytical capabilities to create more adaptive and efficient production systems
